INTRODUCTION
Board Certification in Cardiovascular Pharmacy
The Institute of Pharmacy in Paris, France, together with the European Board of Cardiovascular Pharmacy (EBCP), announce a new pre-doctoral and/or postdoctoral training program leading to Board Certification in Cardiovascular Pharmacy (BCCP).
Cardiovascular Pharmacy
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity. As a result, United States National Institute of Health has placed a high priority on tackling this issue and has put a national strategy in place, with clinical care programs specifically designed to address the key areas of concern. The aim of this program is to equip pharmacists and other health care workers with the requisite knowledge and skills to optimize management of cardiovascular patients in both the hospital and community settings and in doing so improve patient safety and pharmaceutical care of this patient group.
Candidacy for Board Certification in Cardiovascular Pharmacy
Candidates for Board Certification in Cardiovascular Pharmacy (BCCP) must have a significant academic background in pharmacology and cardiovascular physiology and hold a degree or license in any healthcare field. Most candidates hold licenses in pharmacy (any country) but degree holders in nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, cardiovascular physiology, pharmacology, or biochemistry are welcome to apply.
Requirements for Board Certification in Cardiovascular Pharmacy
The requirements for Board Certification are:
(i) Attend 70% of the lectures.
(ii) Supervised research and preparation of an original 40-page masters-level thesis on some aspect of hospital or community cardiovascular pharmacy.
(iii) Successful viva voce (oral examination).
ACCREDITATION
The Institute of Pharmacy is accredited by the European Board of Accreditation of Continuing Education for Health Professionals. By reciprocity, the Institute of Pharmacy is accredited by the American Medical Association.
CURRICULUM
(i) Identify and critically assess the relevant factors for the management of patients with cardiovascular disease.
(ii) Optimize drug therapy in patients with cardiovascular disease.
(iii) Integrate drug therapy into an overall cardiovascular disease management plan.
(iv) Provide appropriate advice to patients and other healthcare professionals regarding disease prevention, risk reduction and disease management, including drug therapy.
(v) Manage drug therapy for a broad range of cardiovascular conditions in both hospital and community pharmacy settings.
(vi) Satisfy requirements for Continuing Professional Development.

ADMISSIONS
Without prejudice or preference, equal consideration is given to qualified candidates from all nations.
Twenty-four (24) candidates are admitted each year.
To be eligible for admissions, candidates must:
(i)
Hold a degree (bachelors, masters, or doctorate) in a biological science or physical science from an accredited college or university;
(ii)
Demonstrate basic knowledge of chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, mathematics, biological sciences, human anatomy and physiology;
(iii)
Provide official transcripts of all prior academic institutions;
(iv)
Schedule an admission interview with Dr. Geissler, Director of the Institute of Pharmacy;
(v)
Provide highlights of transcripts of prior coursework for evaluation of possible transfer credit;
(vi)
Provide two (2) Letters of Recommendation;
(vii)
Provide a brief (250 to 500 word) Statement of Purpose;
(viii)
Submit the application and pay the application fee ($250).
Fees for Board Certification in Cardiovascular Pharmacy
The fees associated with Board Certification are:
(i) $12,000 Lectures
(ii) $12,000 Supervised Research / Thesis
(iii) $1,000 Viva Voce (oral examination)
